Beginning August 1, 2013, precertification requirements will significantly change for HealthPlus Amerigroup. Physicians need to make staff members aware of the changes and the effective date since noncompliance may result in denied claims.

Federal and state law, as well as state contract language, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines, including definitions and specific contract provisions/exclusions, take precedence over these precertification rules and must be considered first when determining coverage.
