How do I become a member of the Tennessee Medical Association?
Simply complete the online membership application. This single application serves as your request to join both the county medical society (where applicable) and the TMA. As an alternative you may also submit a paper copy of the application to our office.
Upon receipt of your application, you will be granted pending membership status which will allow you to start receiving membership benefits. Your full membership in the TMA will be activated once membership in the county medical society is approved (where applicable). Am I eligible to join the Tennessee Medical Association?
To be eligible for membership in the association, an individual must be one of the following:
1. A physician who has acquired the requisite qualifications to be legally licensed, under Title 63, Chapters 6 (medical doctor) or 9 (doctor of osteopathy) of the Tennessee Code Annotated, or a similar statue of another state.
2. A student who is regularly and duly enrolled in a medical school in Tennessee, a candidate for the degree of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy, and certified by the student’s component society.
How do I know which county medical society I belong to?
Membership typically begins with the medical society where you principally practice. If it is more convenient to belong in the society where you live, you may do so with the approval of the society where you practice. If you choose to be a member of TMA in a county that does not have a local society, you may join TMA directly.
Can I be a TMA member, but not a member of my local county medical society?
No, we are a unified association, and you must belong to your county medical society to be a member of the TMA. TMA’s strength is its strong, collaborative relationships with its component medical societies.
How much are dues?
Active Practice: Please use the dues calculator.
Resident: Physicians serving internships, residencies, and fellowships in hospitals and who are not in private practice - Membership is complimentary.
Student: Full-time students pursuing a course of study in a Tennessee medical school leading to the degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy - Membership is complimentary.
Can I apply for membership and pay dues online?

To maintain my TMA membership, do I need to fill out another application once I have completed medical school/residency?
No, we will elevate your membership to the next membership category automatically.
How long will it take to become a member of Tennessee Medical Association?
The length of time for the approval process depends upon the rules and procedures of the individual county medical society and the frequency of meetings. However, once you have submitted an application and dues, you are considered a pending member and you are eligible for many of the benefits of membership.

How do I join TMA’s special interest sections?
TMA’s special interest sections are a membership benefit. Therefore, a member automatically becomes a section member upon approval for TMA membership.
