Applicants Sought for State Positions
The TMA is seeking applicants for the following positions at the state level:
Tennessee Department of Health
Position: Interim State Medical Examiner
Requirements: A physician with an unlimited license to practice medicine and surgery in TN, or qualified and eligible for such a license, and able to obtain a license within six months of employment; and a board-certified pathologist with certification of competency in forensic pathology.
Duties: Serves as an advisor to the Commissioner of Health; works as a consultant to Deputy State MEs who are working in their state-contracted capacity; develops training programs, manuals and teaching media; monitors the state program; and conducts "special studies" as indicated.

Medical Laboratory Board
Position: Licensed physician
Requirement: Five years’ experience, three of which immediately precede the appointment
Time Requirements: Term of service begins immediately upon appointment by the governor. Regular four-year term begins January 1, 2011. MLB meets two days, four times a year in Nashville (Jan, April, July and Oct)
Position: Licensed pathologist
Requirement: Licensed as a physician and certified in clinical and anatomical pathology by the American Board of Pathology
Time Requirements: Four-year term; MLB meets two days, four times a year in Nashville (Jan, April, July and Oct)

Polysomnographic Professional Standard Committee
Position: Licensed physician
Requirement: Certified in sleep medicine by a national certifying body recognized by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
Time Requirements: Four-year term; meets twice a year in Nashville
