The Medical Student Section of the Tennessee Medical Association (TMA-MSS) is a student-led component of the TMA, consisting of medical students from all of Tennessee’s five accredited medical schools:

  • East Tennessee State University

  • Lincoln Memorial University

  • Meharry Medical College

  • University of Tennessee Health Science Center

  • Vanderbilt University

TMA-MSS works to develop future physician leaders and provides many opportunities for interested students to get involved in organized medicine.

Join us to learn about relevant healthcare policy issues and advocate for Tennesseans at the local, state, and national levels!

Events for Medical Students

STUDENT LEADERSHIP SUMMIT: The TMA Medical Student Leadership Summit is a one-day conference designed for medical students interested in organized medicine, advocacy and leadership training. All students currently enrolled in a Tennessee medical school are eligible to apply.

LEAD PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS & RESIDENTS: TMA and its affiliated medical societies offer programs to help students and residents get engaged in organized medicine without creating additional financial burdens or distractions from their education or training. Participants gain relevant experience to bolster their resumes, become better equipped to successfully transition into practice, and position themselves as leaders in the next generation of advocates for the profession.

DAY ON THE HILL: TMA’s annual policy briefing and lobby day in Nashville connects physicians directly with lawmakers so they can advocate for their patients and discuss major issues affecting the medical profession in Tennessee.

TMA HOUSE OF DELEGATES: The annual meeting gives physicians from across the state an opportunity to gather as a professional group to present and debate policies that affect the practice of medicine and the delivery of patient care in both Tennessee and the United States.
