All Member Virtual Meeting

TMA hosts a virtual meeting on the third Thursday of the month to discuss an issue that is relevant to our members and physicians across the state. We invite guest experts to give us their perspective on the issue. The next session will take place on September 23 at 6:00 pm CST.  Pre-registration is required, but attendance is free.

This meeting will address the effect of the Delta variant in Tennessee (including ICU, hospitalizations, deaths and differences compared to other variants), and the clinical treatment of long-haul COVID (or PASC). TMA President Ron Kirkland, MD, will start the meeting, and TMA Immediate Past President Kevin Smith, MD, will act as moderator for the group discussion with three guest panelists. 

Guest panelists will include: Sapna Kripalani, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Vanderbilt University Medical Center; William Schaffner, MD, Professor of Preventive Medicine, Department of Health Policy; Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Vanderbilt University Medical Center; Tom Talbot, MD, Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases; Chief Hospital Epidemiologist, Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Tennessee Healthcare Symposium 

The Tennessee Healthcare Symposium is a must-attend event for physicians, medical office staff and other healthcare professionals who want to improve coding, billing and reimbursement process within your practice, as well as improve bottom line profitability. For the 2020 event, we featured 31 experts across 12 educational sessions and 8 unique payer sessions that highlighted upcoming changes to insurance plans. This year's event is scheduled for November 2 - 4, 2021 and will be held virtually.

House of Delegates

TMA's House of Delegates gives physicians from across the state an opportunity to gather as a professional group to present and debate policies that affect the practice of medicine and the delivery of patient care in both Tennessee and the United States. Our Annual Meeting and House of Delegates occurred on May 21-23, 2021. Visit the page below to review the final actions and see images from this event. Physician Leadership Lab

The John Ingram Institute for Physician Leadership is TMA’s ongoing training initiative to uplift physicians as leaders on a healthcare team, in their profession and in the community. This multi-month Lab helps physicians develop the valuable skills essential to leaders in the emerging physician-led, team-based healthcare environment. Physician participants attend two live sessions in January and April, along with webinars and individual coaching sessions.

Day on the Hill 2021

TMA's annual Doctors' Day on the Hill was held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. This event connects physicians directly with lawmakers so they can advocate for their patients and discuss major issues affecting the medical profession in Tennessee. Due to COVID-19 safety concerns, we hosted the event in a new virtual format.

Proper Prescribing Training

TMA helps doctors meet state medical boards’ requirements of two (2) CME hours of prescribing training. In our proprietary, accredited course, "Appropriate Prescribing in Tennessee," physicians will receive a comprehensive review of new definitions, state laws and other regulatory changes affecting pain management. Physicians renewing their license in 2022 are required to take a prescribing course by Dec. 31, 2021.
