TMA's Issues COVID Recommendations to County Mayors

July 8, 2020

The Tennessee Medical Association issued a letter to County Mayors today in an effort to aid decisions regarding mask wearing as a means for reducing the spread of Coronavirus.

In the letter, the TMA recommends that all Tennessee Mayors "consider issuing requirements to wear masks in public in your counties to attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19 in Tennessee. Short of reverting to shutting down portions of our economy again, universal wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing are the only practical ways to slow the virus going forward."

The TMA especially recommended masks in counties with higher numbers of new cases per population per day (over 10 new cases/day/100,000 population averaged over the last 7 days).

Within the letter, TMA linked to a month-by-month color-coded comparison map, showing which counties are more heavily impacted by COVID-19 since April. You can view the entire letter here.
