TMA Names Doug Word Director of Regional Development

May 11, 2018

Doug Word has been named Director of Regional Development for the Tennessee Medical Association, the state’s largest professional organization for doctors. He is responsible for managing county and regional medical society activities in designated areas in Middle and West Tennessee.

As the staff liaison to TMA-chartered county and regional medical societies, Word will help drive and support physicians’ efforts to increase medical society activities, improve member engagement, and build and retain physician membership.

“We are deliberately investing more resources in and taking a more proactive, strategic approach where there is untapped potential for TMA and its county medical societies. TMA gives doctors an influential voice for advocacy plus access to continuing medical education, leadership training, legal resources and a number of other programs, and we are continually working to increase brand visibility across the state. Doug will work with local physician leaders to grow TMA’s presence and visibility in the market,” said TMA CEO Russ Miller, CAE.

Word joined TMA in 2014 as Marketing Manager with an emphasis on membership recruitment and retention. He will remain based in the association’s Nashville headquarters and deliver a range of management services including membership development, education and events, grassroots advocacy and administrative functions, and more.

TMA is the largest professional organization for doctors in Tennessee, serving more than 9,000 members with advocacy, education, leadership training and other programs. Visit to learn more.
