TMA Seeks Repeal of Professional Privilege Tax
January 15, 2020
Prior to adjourning the 2019 legislative session, the Tennessee General Assembly abruptly exempted several professions from paying the state’s professional privilege tax. Doctors—along with lawyers, lobbyists and stock brokers—are still required to pay the $400 annual tax. Repealing the tax is one of TMA’s top legislative priorities going into the 2020 session.
TMA and seven other organizations in the Professional Privilege Tax Coalition sent a letter on Jan. 14 to Gov. Bill Lee and the General Assembly urging lawmakers to repeal the tax. Join TMA and others at the legislature’s Cordell Hull Building in Nashville on Feb. 11 from 8 a.m. – noon for a lobby day to end the professional privilege tax. Register now.
