All Member Virtual: "Patients At Risk" Video Recording Available

TMA hosted Dr. Niran Al-Agba and Dr. Rebekah Bernard, authors of the book "Patients at Risk: The Rise of the Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant in Healthcare," for our All Member Virtual meeting in April 2021.

Their book documents the dangers of independent practice among physician extenders, exposing the ongoing political maneuverings and corporate agendas that lead to the replacement of qualified medical professionals by lesser-trained practitioners.

For years TMA's advocacy efforts have kept Tennessee physicians at the helm of a team-based patient care model, minimizing the inappropriate scope of practice expansion sought by some midlevel healthcare providers. As the Scope of Practice battle continues, "Patients at Risk" presents a solid case against independent practice based on actual cases the authors researched, lack of data supporting scope expansion, and corporate and political influence they have noted through several decades.

Their dynamic and informative presentation is available below along with excerpted clips. This material clearly affirms why TMA believes physician-led healthcare delivery teams are best for patients.
