Statewide Positions

President-Elect

Serves as head of the Association during the following year, including official spokesperson with media, government officials and other entities. Includes one year term as President-elect, one year as President and one year as Immediate Past President.

Speaker and Vice-Speaker of the TMA House of Delegates

Speaker presides over the TMA House of Delegates, moderates debate, makes rulings on parliamentary procedures. Vice-Speaker is designated to fill in when the Speaker is not available or when he/she delegates. One year term, up to three consecutive terms.

 

Regional Positions

Judicial Councilor

Each region shall have one councilor to serve on TMA’s Judicial Council, which meets annually (or more if necessary) to investigate alleged improper conduct and oversee formal disciplinary action against members or component medical societies. Councilors also assist component medical societies in maintaining their viability in the region. Two-year term.
*Councilors for Regions 1, 3, 5 and 7 will be elected in 2024.

Trustee

The TMA Board of Trustees determines the policy and details of management of the Association between meetings of the House of Delegates, carrying out the directives given by the House. Two-year term.
*Trustees for Regions 2, 4, 5 and 7 will be elected in 2024.

 

Elections Process and Timeline

September 1: Deadline for each region's elected trustee to certify the representatives on the Nominating Committee for each region.

November: President calls the meeting of the Nominating Committee.

December 1: Deadline for Nominating Committee to submit all nominations to TMA Chief Executive Officer.

December 2: TMA will distribute candidate profile forms to all nominees.

December 10: Candidate profile forms due at TMA headquarters by 5 p.m. CST.

January: Publication of candidate profiles online.

February 1-29: TMA General Election ballots open.

March 1: The Elections Committee will certify the election. If needed, runoff ballots will be prepared. The Election Committee will notify all candidates of results. Results will be posted on tnmed.org.

March 21-28: Runoff election (if needed). Runoff ballots due by 5 p.m. CST on March 28.
