The Tennessee Medical Education Fund Inc., is an independent, nonprofit 501 (c) 3 corporation, created by the Tennessee Medical Association in 1963 to provide scholarships to medical students in Tennessee medical schools, residents and physicians in medical school or practicing medicine in Tennessee.

TMEF has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships and $75,000 in grants to physicians for continuing education. More information on scholarships can be found at

  • Meharry Medical College

  • LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine

TMEF also provides annual grants to the John Ingram Institute for Physician Leadership, a specialized professional program developed and managed by the Tennessee Medical Association. This funding is used to offset the Institute’s operating expenses so more Tennessee physicians can acquire the skills necessary to excel in leadership positions within their practices, profession and communities. More than 150 physicians have graduated from the institute since its inception.

Donations to TMEF

TMEF accepts tax deductible gifts and donations. Please send general donations of support to the foundation and note with your donation if you wish for your gift to be designated to a specific program.
