Polls Are Open for the 2023 TMA Leadership Election

Nashville, TN — The polls are now open for TMA’s Leadership Election, and will close on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 5 pm CT. Members will recieve a personal, secure ballot via email from communications@tnmed.org with the subject line, “Cast Your Vote in the 2023 TMA Leadership Election” on Feb. 1.

This election will secure the organization’s next President-Elect, four members of TMA’s Board of Trustees and four members of the Judicial Council. Profiles of the candidates are available at tnmed.org/elections. Your 2023-2024 candidates are:

President-Elect

  • Landon Combs, MD, Gray

The President-elect serves as president of the Association during the following year, and as the official spokesperson on important medical issues with the media. This member also meets with state and federal governmental officials regarding medical policy and the position of the TMA. The President-elect serves on the Board of Trustees for three years: one each as President-elect, President and then Immediate Past-President. This position also serves as chairman of the Board’s Executive Committee.

Board of Trustees

  • Region 1: Walter Rayford, MD, Memphis
  • Region 3: Laura Andreson, DO, Franklin
  • Region 6: Joseph “Gene” Huffstutter, MD, Chattanooga
  • Region 8: Allan Colyar, MD, Johnson City

The Board of Trustees determines the policy and details of management of the Association between meetings of the House of Delegates. The Board makes decisions over the expenditure of the funds and carries out the responsibilities and directives given to it by the House of Delegates.

Judicial Council

  • Region 2: Chris Marshall, MD, Parsons
  • Region 4: Nicole Schlechter, MD, Nashville
  • Region 6: Nita Shumaker, MD, Hixson
  • Region 8: John McGraw, MD, Morristown

Councilors investigate matters of alleged improper conduct and sit on the Judicial Council, which has the power to censure, expel, suspend or take other action against officers or component medical societies via formal disciplinary action. Regional Councilors also help component medical societies maintain their viability in the region.
